Bio
Growing up Greg used to point to the violinists playing during orchestra shows and exclaim to his mom, “I want to play that one!”. Thirty plus years later he still is.A regular performer with the Georgian Bay Symphony, Greg also enjoys preparing chamber and small-ensemble works for special performances. He studied the Suzuki method under Bruce Skelton and enjoyed the approach taken by Jerzy Kaplanek while he attended Wilfrid Laurier University. As a teacher Greg tries to combine a gentle approach of encouragement coupled with a focus on technique while growing a student’s ability to accomplish repertoire. Teaching
Greg primarily focuses on the Suzuki Method books in his instruction, supplemented with technical and theoretical studies. This approach is then tailored to meet each student’s particular needs, with thoughtful attention given to areas where the greatest growth can occur. Lessons are a conversation rather than a lecture, and students are encouraged to engage actively with the material.A typical lesson begins with a warm-up, often using scales as a way to focus on technical development. From there we move on to the repertoire currently being studied. Students are usually asked to present the work they have done since the previous lesson. Feedback begins by highlighting what went well, followed by constructive suggestions for improvement. We then work together to address problem areas and develop the techniques that will elevate the performance.Students leave each lesson with a clear understanding of what they did well and what they should focus on before the next lesson.Lessons are offered in half-hour or full-hour blocks on a recurring weekly basis and are billed monthly.
